Trump is hoping to tap into the $30 million a week he has been receiving from wealthy foreign donors to help pay his border wall, a proposal he has said he is seeking to secure for himself as he seeks to secure the GOP nomination.
The wall proposal was included in Trump’s immigration order released last week.
If all goes according to plan, it will be a major challenge for the Republican nominee to pay for the border wall if he wins the November election.
“The wall is going to be paid for by the Mexican people, not me,” Trump said on ABC’s “This Week.”
“And I want to make sure that I get paid.
That’s my job.
That will be my priority.”
A former aide to Trump told CNN that the candidate was aware of the Wall of Cash proposal and was working on it.
“There’s a very good possibility he’s going to try to make it happen,” the aide said.
“He’s going after donors.”
Trump has repeatedly expressed support for the wall.
The billionaire businessman has repeatedly said he will “get Mexico to pay.”
And last week, he told a rally in South Carolina that “I’m going to do it on the first day of my administration.”
“The Mexicans are going to pay,” Trump added.
“I will do it.”
The Wall of cash proposal has received some support from the GOP establishment.
The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Trump had received $8.2 million in contributions from a group called the Wall Street Leadership Group, which was founded by Republican mega-donor Tom Barrack.
The Journal added that Trump’s campaign has also been making several calls to donors to see if they would commit to a donation.
On Tuesday, Trump tweeted that the Wall Of Cash proposal was not a serious proposal and that he would “get the wall paid for.”
The plan would also require that Trump secure the border with Mexico and that the money be used to build a “massive fence” and other infrastructure.
Trump said he would be willing to make a deal with Democrats to build the wall if they agree to fund his border plan.
“We have a big border with the Mexican border,” Trump told “This Nation.”
“It is a border that needs to be secured.
And I’m going after the Mexican government, I’m not going to wait until the Democrats pay for it.”
“They are going out there and they are spending millions of dollars a day trying to find out who I am.
I am going after them,” Trump also told “Fox and Friends” on Tuesday.
The Republican presidential candidate has said that Mexico will pay for a border wall.
“Mexico is going after Trump,” the former aide said of the wall proposal.
“It’s a political statement and I think the president wants to be seen as tough and tough on Mexico.”
